Latvian airline airBaltic launched scheduled flights between Vilnius and Düsseldorf, Germany, on Thursday 31 October. The first flight was celebrated together with representatives of the airline, Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) and passengers during an official launch event at Vilnius Airport.

It should be recalled that during the 2024 winter season, airBaltic will operate two new routes from Vilnius - to Düsseldorf Airport in Germany and to Sandefjord Torp Airport in Norway - the latter of which has already started.

"Düsseldorf is one of Germany's most important economic centres, so a direct connection between Vilnius and this city will significantly contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries. This route will not only provide more opportunities for passengers, but is also in line with our strategic objective to develop connections with Germany. We are delighted to offer yet another high-quality connection, which is important for both business and travellers," said Tomas Zitikis, Head of Route Development, Lithuanian Airports.

In August 2024, Lithuanian Airports and airBaltic signed a joint investment agreement under which regular flights to Düsseldorf, Germany, will be operated. This is the fourth time that flights are operated under the risk-sharing model used by LTOU to promote and invest in strategically important flight routes for Lithuania.

In total, the network of Lithuanian airports already operates flights to as many as six major German airports and ten regular routes between Lithuania and Germany.

In the winter season 2024, airBaltic will operate 14 direct routes from Vilnius to various European countries. Earlier, airBaltic announced plans to launch seven new routes from Vilnius in the summer season 2025: to Chisinau (Moldova), Ibiza (Spain), Prague (Czech Republic), Rhodes (Greece), Tirana (Albania), Tel Aviv (Israel) and Valencia (Spain).
