From the beginning of January 2024, part of the parking lots and traffic scheme in front of Vilnius Airport will be under reconstruction, so all arriving cars will be diverted to other short-term stopover or long-term parking areas. Half of the parking spaces currently on the north side (outside the terminal) will be closed for reconstruction works starting in early January, with the first phase of works scheduled to be completed by June, when the work will move to the south side of the square.

The whole traffic scheme reconstruction project, which is running in parallel with the construction of Vilnius Airport's new departures terminal, will be completed in October 2024 and is being phased in order to minimize the impact on parking services during the transition period.

"The overall reconstruction at the capital's airport will fundamentally change the existing circulation pattern of the transport accesses, which will be much clearer, better oriented and designed to provide passengers with convenient access to the new departure terminal as well as to the existing terminal. In both the first and second phases, we plan to upgrade the surface wastewater collection system, renew all pavements, lighting, install shelters, bicycle parking spaces, prepare areas for electric vehicle charging stations and green certain parts of the territory" says Arnas Dūmanas, Head of the Infrastructure Development Department of Lithuanian Airports.

It should be reminded that Vilnius Airport will continue to operate all long-term multi-storey car parks without interruptions during all reconstruction works, and passengers will be able to be met or dropped off during the first stage of the reconstruction in the remaining short-term parking areas in front of the airport or in the "Kiss and Fly" area towards the existing departure terminal (ramp).

Lithuanian Airports urges passengers who plan to drive to Vilnius Airport early next year to check the parking arrangements and schemes that will come into force in January, as the usual access routes and parking locations may have changed. All the latest information is and will be available on the airport website.

Changes to the parking areas are also planned for the second phase of the access and traffic scheme reconstruction, but passengers will be informed in more detail next year.

The integration of public transport, electric vehicles, car sharing schemes and carriers into the future transport scheme is also a major focus in order to optimize traffic flows. All the current parking lots will be combined into a single scheme, a solution that will double the capacity of the current system.

Vilnius Airport is building a new passenger departure terminal module in the northern part of the airport. The construction of this 14,400 square metre terminal will increase the total area of Vilnius Airport's passenger terminals by one third and double the passenger capacity. The new terminal is expected to be operational in early 2025.
