Lithuanian Airports believe that arriving at the airport at least two hours prior to the flight is a golden rule for travellers. Nowadays, it has become essential to ensure all necessary procedures are done on time. A survey conducted by Lithuanian Airports shows that an increasing number of passengers have started taking this into account. However, with two airlines introducing changes to hand luggage handling procedure on 1 November, customers are now asked to pay even more attention to arrival time.

The survey conducted by Lithuanian Airports in order to find out how early passengers arrive at the airport before their flight shows that most passengers arrive between one and half to two hours before the flight. This answer was given by more than one third of all respondents, around 35 percent. At Kaunas and Palanga airports about half of all respondents arrive within the aforementioned time frame, representing 49 and 40 percent respectively. Compared to the same period in 2017, numbers grew by a few percent in all three Lithuanian airports. Rasa Petraitienė, Head of Passenger Experience Management Division, warns that following the introduction of new hand luggage handling procedures by Ryanair and Wizz Air airlines on 1 November, passengers should consider the recommendation of two hours even more responsibly.

“Now that these airlines have changed their hand luggage regulations we advise all passengers to take extra care when planning their journey. In order to ensure a smooth start to your journey and passing through all airport control points on time, we advise that our passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to their flight,” suggests Rasa Petraitienė.

According to Ryanair baggage policy effective from 1 November, passengers will be able to take one small piece of luggage (40x20x25 cm) on board which must fit under the seat in front. Priority passengers will also be able to take a larger piece of hand luggage on board. Also, effective 1 November, Wizz Air passengers will be able to take one small piece of luggage (40x30x20 cm) on board. For priority passengers it will be possible to take an additional, larger piece of luggage on board. We kindly remind non-priority passengers paying for an additional 10 kg or larger piece of luggage that they have to submit it during passenger registration.

“We would like to draw the attention of our passengers to the fact that air carriers will not be changing rules covering bringing Duty Free purchases on board. Both priority and non-priority passengers will be able to bring one Duty Free shopping bag on board,” reminds Rasa Petraitienė.

Ryanair passengers who ordered their flights before 31 August and traveling from 1 November onwards may bring one free-of-charge piece of luggage (10 kg), but they will have to submit it during passenger registration. Wizz Air passengers who bought their tickets before 10 October can bring a free-of-charge piece of luggage (10 kg) but they will have to submit it during passenger registration.
