Lithuania switched to winter time on the last weekend of October marking the start of winter season for Lithuanian Airports. Thanks to joint efforts of Lithuanian Airports and air carriers, passengers planning holiday and business trips will now be offered eight new and strategically significant destinations, as well as additional weekly flights to already popular directions.

Following their most successful summer season so far, with more than 4 million passengers served, Lithuanian Airports expect to keep up this tendency in the winter season. Aurimas Stikliūnas, the Head of Lithuanian Airports Aviation Services Division, believes that new flight destinations are going to be the main factor encouraging further growth of the company. It means that new destinations are going to become even more accessible to travellers. Lithuanian Airports will also increase flight numbers for the already popular destinations. In addition, new travel operators have recently emerged on the market forming the grounds for further growth of charter flights.

“This year’s winter season is exceptional because we offer access to both new destinations and new countries for travellers and businesses. For example, you will soon be able to take a direct flight from Vilnius to Amman, the capital of sunny Jordan. We have also noticed a growing demand among our passengers to have comfortable access to Ukraine. Therefore, we will open a direct flight from Vilnius to Lviv. This city is an excellent choice not only for weekend trips, but also for longer skiing trips in the Carpathian Mountains”, explains Aurimas Stikliūnas when talking about the latest news of the coming winter season.

Wizz Air will be operating direct flights from Vilnius to Lviv. At the same time, Ryanair will open a direct route from Vilnius to Kiev. Aurimas Stikliūnas is happy that the capital of Ukraine is becoming even more accessible at a lower rate. Ryanair will also be operating the flights to Amman and Italian city Treviso. The latter direction will further expand Lithuania’s air transport network with the northern part of Italy. Conveniently, Treviso is located only a 35-minute-drive away from Venice, a much beloved travel destination.

From the start of the winter season, seeking to make travel process even more convenient, Air Baltic will use larger aircraft for its flights to Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin and Paris. Norwegian Airlines will offer more flights from Vilnius to Stockholm.

In addition, Lithuanian Airports have good news for those travelling from Kaunas. Kaunas Airport will open four new routes this winter season. For those seeking a bit of warmth under the Italian sun, Ryanair will offer Bologna and Milan destinations. It is expected that new Ryanair routes to Italy will delight not only Lithuanian travellers, but also ensure comfortable connections with Lithuania for Italian tourists.

At the end of October, Ryanair will also open a direct flight to Tel Aviv. This destination is especially important considering rich Jewish historical and cultural heritage in Kaunas and the Jewish community in this city. Hopefully, this route will also encourage inbound tourism.

“This season we are especially happy to be able to offer a new route to Turku, Finland. This route is also very important for encouraging Finnish tourists to visit Kaunas and Lithuania. Multiple parties have worked very hard to make it possible while Kaunas City Municipality provided very important financial support. When seeking to attract a larger number of new flights, sole efforts of Lithuanian Airports are not often sufficient. However, by joining forces, making financial and other resources available, we can ensure that reaching Lithuania by air will become even more convenient and bring larger benefits to the country,” believes Aurimas Stikliūnas, the Head of Lithuanian Airports Aviation Services Division.

In 2018 winter season, Lithuanian Airports will offer customers 66 unique routes. A total of 55 routes will be available from Vilnius Airport, 19 routes from Kaunas Airport and 5 routes from Palanga Airport.
