On 17 November, the ‘go-ahead’ for the start of construction works for a new DHL distribution centre at Vilnius Airport has been given. The investment for the construction of the so called ‘build-to-suit’ type project will amount to 6.3 million EUR. Construction works of the project are planned to be completed in the third quarter of the year 2022. Eiko statyba has been selected as the General Contractor for the project. According to the representatives of Lithuanian Airports, this Project is the result of a successful joint trilateral cooperation. The Project will significantly aid and contribute to the efficiency of the cargo-handling infrastructure at the largest airport in the country.
The distribution centre shall comply with the highest requirements of the international logistics company DHL and has been designed in accordance with the best practices acquired by the aforementioned company. The new building will border the territory of Vilnius Airport. This will allow for efficient and streamlined handling and processing of good for the delivery by air transport. The terminal building will be 4 800 square meters in size and will be comprised of an administrative building and a fulfilment centre for distribution, handling and processing of goods. The project also foresees for the construction of lots, total size of which shall be 12 000 square meters.
Innovative technologies implemented at the new terminal shall not only increase the efficiency of processes for handling of goods but will also take the well-being of employees into consideration. For example, the terminal will employ a two-level distribution line that will be able to handle more than 3 600 parcels per hour. This will not only make the processing of parcels more efficient but will also reduce the physical work required by the employees.
We would like to note that the undertaking Terminalo projektas managed by the Eika Real Estate Fund has won the land lease auction in September of the year 2020 and has leased 1.88-hectare land plot from Lithuanian Airports. The land plot is located at the southern part of the Lithuanian Airports territory, where the construction works of the new express delivery terminal shall take place.
