A modern multifunctional parking lot is under construction at Vilnius Airport

Construction works of a modern, multifunctional parking lot positioned near the Vilnius Airport, at the crossroads of Rodūnios Road and Felikso Vaitkaus Street began. The project is being implemented by Lithuanian Airports in response to the growing demand for parking at Vilnius Airport. Passengers will enjoy 999 new parking spaces and quality of these services will improve.

The number of passengers travelling through Vilnius Airport is growing fast year by year. This has led to a strong increase in demand for parking spaces in the last few years. According to Director of Commerce Department of Lithuanian Airports Justinas Stepšys, the newly constructed multifunctional parking lot will have four floors and span over 32 thousand square metres. Travellers will no longer need to worry about safe long-term parking for their vehicles as they will be offered new parking spaces under the roof, which is especially convenient during the winter.

“Rapid growth of passenger and flight numbers obliges us to develop convenient infrastructure for travellers and airport partners, which is why we strive to provide a comfortable space that will meet the growing qualitative needs and almost double the number of parking spaces managed by the airport. The new parking lot will house a modern car hire centre, designed according to the highest standards of international airports. Customers will be able to find offices of different car hire companies with adapted service rooms and dedicated parking spaces in this centre,” explains Justinas Stepšys.

The new parking lot, located only 100 metres away from the passenger terminal of Vilnius Airport, will have even more advantages. The multifunctional site will be equipped with very wide and comfortable transitions to the other floors, as well as traffic management and escort systems. The latter will make the process of finding a free parking space easier and faster. Thanks to a smart payment system, customers will be able to pay for the parking in three different payment machines using a variety of payment options. Of course, it will be possible to reserve a parking space on the internet website in advance. Taking into account current market needs, the parking lot will offer charging stations for electric cars leaving an opportunity to install more charging stations in the future. Vehicle safety will be ensured by a large number of video surveillance cameras and a motion-responsive lighting system.

“For the convenience of our customers, we will also install a passenger elevator and waiting room with a sanitary unit (WC), as well as snack and beverage machines. Scales and luggage measuring equipment will be available upon demand. In the future, we also plan to install a car wash and solar power plant. In addition, the nearby crossroads will be reconstructed to offer a three-lane road, safe pedestrian crossings and extended cycle path,” explains Justinas Stepšys.

The parking lot construction works should be completed in 11 months. At the beginning of October, after the approval of construction works by the Coordination Commission for the Protection of Objects of Importance to Ensuring National Security, the contract was signed with the successful tenderer UAB Veikmės Statyba.

Currently, Vilnius Airport has three short-term, three long-term and six business customer designated parking lots. All parking lots combined currently offer 1,073 parking spaces.
