The international competition announced by Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) at the end of 2024 to select an architectural concept for the new arrivals terminal at Vilnius Airport has attracted twelve proposals.

Starting this week, all submitted architectural concepts that meet the competition requirements will be publicly available on the official competition website www.vnocompetition.lt and exhibited at the Lithuanian Architects’ Union (LAS) premises.

“We are taking one of the first steps toward the realization of the new arrivals terminal at Vilnius Airport. We believe that architectural teams will offer functional and seamlessly integrated solutions for one of our strategically significant future projects. It is essential that the new terminal not only meets the highest standards of passenger comfort and operational efficiency but also harmoniously integrates with the overall airport infrastructure,” said Simonas Bartkus, CEO of LTOU.

The goal of the architectural competition is to create a modern and functional arrivals terminal that will be integrated with the future Rail Baltica connection, the newly built departures terminal, and the redeveloped central square. The new arrivals terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

An international jury will evaluate the projects in the second half of April, with the five best proposals sharing a total prize fund of €120,000. The winning concept, following the jury’s vote count and necessary document verification, is expected to be announced in the second half of May.

The competition’s evaluation panel will assess submissions based on qualitative criteria. Jury members include:

  • Laura Kairienė – Chief Architect of Vilnius City
  • Mariia Grachova – Architect, Director of Chapman & Taylor’s Brussels office (UK)
  • Tom Holtmann – Architect, Partner and Project Manager at Nordic Office of Architecture (Norway)
  • Rolandas Palekas – Architect, Head of Paleko ARCH Studio (Lithuania)
  • Representatives from Lithuanian Airports
