Lithuanian airports bring in consultants to assist in the concession project
Last week Lithuanian airports announced a public tender regarding the advisory services for the concession project. The consultant is expected to advice on all financial, tax, legal and technical issues arising in the drafting of the concession project. It is planned that Lithuanian airports will commence work with the selected consultant from Lithuania or abroad starting with January next year.

Vilnius Airport sees record number of passengers in August
Vilnius Airport has served 332 thousand passengers this August – this is the record of the capital’s airport during the entire period of operation since 1932. During the last summer month of the last year, 301 thousand passengers travelled to/from Vilnius Airport by air, this year the number rose by 10%. The capital’s airport expects to receive over 3 million passengers in total this year – the threshold of 2 million has been reached in mid-August.

Wizz Air based the 4th aircraft in Vilnius and started 5 new flights
Vilnius, 14 September 2015: Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, implements its further expansion plans in Lithuania: 4th Airbus A320 aircraft is added to its base in Vilnius airport and started 5 new routes to Billund, Munich-Memmingen, Stockholm, Glasgow and Kyiv.

Lithuanian airports tightened passenger screening procedures
As of 1 September Lithuanian airports – Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga – tightened aviation passenger screening procedures: some passengers are additionally screened for potential contact with explosives. Such additional screening practice was established by the European Union regulations, therefore the procedure has been introduced in all EU airports.

Lithuanian Airports: Lithuanians already tired of vacationing on islands
The peak of Lithuanian holidays is already coming to an end, although in aviation the summer season will end on last Sunday of October. The three Lithuanian airports – in Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga – have serviced over 1.3 million passengers during the three calendar summer months, i.e. by 9% more compared to the same period last year. In fact, this year has shown that holidays on the islands of the Mediterranean Sea start losing in popularity to Southern European cities.

Wide range of Vilnius Airport flights attracts Lithuanian neighbours
More and more foreign passengers choose Vilnius not only as a great holiday destination but also as a first trip stop. Vilnius is increasingly popular among Lithuanian neighbours. Having noticed growing numbers of Latvian passengers a special shuttle was launched connecting the main Lithuanian air gateway and Daugavpils.

Next year SAS will offer new routes to Los Angeles and Miami
SAS is opening three new routes to USA in 2016. The new routes being launched are Los Angeles from Stockholm, Miami from Oslo and Miami from Copenhagen. SAS is also increasing the number of departures from Stockholm to New York and Chicago and between Copenhagen and Shanghai. That means that SAS will now offer over 330,000 additional seats on its intercontinental routes in 2016.

Vilnius Airport crossed the threshold of two million passengers
On 14 August Vilnius Airport saw off its two millionth passenger – this year such a number of passengers was achieved almost a month earlier compared to the last year. The first million was served in mid-May, and it took only three months to reach the second. In summer Vilnius Airport serves 10.5 thousand passengers on average daily.

The Order of Malta Relief Organisation providing the transportation service for the disabled “Let’s go” has also started its activities in the area of Vilnius Airport. Therefore, it will be even easier for persons with reduced mobility to travel abroad.
