An independent company since 30 September 1991.
Full name – State Enterprise Vilnius International Airport.
Founder – the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
VIA now employs over 500 specialists.
The company occupies an area of 326 ha, and the length of the airfield perimeter is 10.54 km.
The length of the runway is 2.515 m; width – 50 m; PCN83/F/D/X/T; Landing Category I, Siemens signal lights system.
The airport is located on a plateau in the south of Vilnius. It is only 7 km or 15 minutes drive by car from the centre of the capital.
15 airlines operate scheduled flights from Vilnius Airport, 14 of which carry passengers and 1 operates cargo flights. A few more local and foreign airlines operate charter flights.
The airport provides aviation and non-aviation services to national and foreign economic entities, as well as natural persons.
Aircraft operations at the airport are based on a published timetable, i.e. scheduled flights, and some are not based on a scheduled timetable, i.e. charter flights.
As air traffic in Lithuania is rather seasonal, summer and winter schedules are compiled. According to the winter schedule, the airport operates around 570 regular flights a week, and according to the summer schedule – around 685 regular flights a week, the rest of the flights are charter flights.
In 2007, Vilnius International Airport served 1,717 million passengers.
In 2008 - 2,048 million.
In 2009 - 1,308 million.
